Well... I've been frequenting this place for the past 4 years not every Friday for lunch but once maybe every 3 months.
I work right downtown and this place is just 5 minutes walk for me so makes my lunch break easier.
I always get the same thing whenever I go; Seafood Chowder with a biscuit and an Oatmeal Raisin cookie.
Okay... for those chowder folks out there... you should definitely try it here... I am by no means a 'foodie' or a connoisseur of any kind but I will say that in my opinion, this is very very good.
It's very hearty, lots of seafood and a very good consistency in thickness the way a chowder should be.
You do get a biscuit for dipping and it is ... how can I put this... FREAKING HUGE :)
I say that in the nicest way because it is delicious for a biscuit and you could make a meal ( a good one ) out of it just by itself.
The Oatmeal cookie I get is huge as well (yes, another meal) and very tasty; lot's of raisins, very moist and soft. AWESOME.
This all for a price that's just below 7 dollars! Not too shabby for what you get.
Been there so often, the owner knows exactly what I want before I step over the threshold!.
I love that... makes me feel special indeed.
You don't get that kind of service from these big box store restaurants... only the small 'mom and pop' shops. -

We were tourists looking for a quick wholesome lunch and found this little place hit the spot. We had sandwiches made to order with a choice of four types of bread and Pita, along with two choices of soups. We didn't try or notice the salads, cookies, muffins. They have a small breakfast menu also. This is mainly a take out spot but there are several tables and chairs for those eating inside. You can have grilled cheese or grilled chicken if you want a hot sandwich. Clean efficient smooth service.

I had heard nothing but great things about this place.
"Get a breakfast sandwich. They're huge and amazingly delicious!"
So I did.
It wasn't huge. Nor was it amazingly delicious.
It was measly and amazingly bland. Did I just hit an off day? Or am I a breakfast sandwich snob and this just simply wasn't good enough?
The few sandwiches I've had, though, have been quite yummy. I dig the avocado and sprouts on a bagel smeared with cream cheese. Simple, yet delightful. The turkey cranberry wrap is nothing to sneeze at either.
AYLI has the benefit of a great location on its side. Its surrounded by businesses and office buildings. It sort of hit the location jackpot.
Aside from seeming to stay fairly busy I don't find it has much presence. But then again, I guess given the nature of how they work they don't need bells and whistles. They're a simple place. You walk in, duck around a few small tables and chairs, place or order at the counter, pay and you're on your way.
Its not a pretty place. The service is mediocre. But from what I can tell the food is decent. So, if you can put up with a few minutes of unenthusiastic service for a decent sandwich, this is likely a good option for you. -

This is a nice choice for the sandwich lovers, who are looking for the traditional sandwich. No wraps, just good old bread, meat and toppings.
This is in a great location along Hollis St. to grab lunch. The staff is nice and sometimes going back to what we know is best, is a great choice.
I really like this spot. -

Things I like about this tiny sandwich joint on Hollis St:
1. Sprouts! You can never find a place that puts bean sprouts on sandwiches. I love that they have them.
2. Not mayonnaise-y tuna! Another total plus -- their tuna isn't overloaded with so much mayo that you can't even taste the fish. Co-workers might not like this as much later on, when I'm very smelly.
3. Wax paper! With a dad from upper Ontario, all my sandwiches as a child were wrapped in wax paper. I don't even think we had plastic wrap in the house. Makes me feel nostalgic and happy to unwrap my yummy lunch.
AYLI is just right for me, though I can admit that it's nothing out of the ordinary. Just good, fresh ingredients, standard pricing and quick service. Lunch win in my books.
